Hearing FAQs
How do I know which hearing aid style is right for me?
The right hearing aid style depends on several factors, including the degree of your hearing loss, your lifestyle, your cosmetic preferences, and your budget. Some people prefer discreet, in-the-ear devices, while others may benefit more from behind-the-ear models that offer more power and features. Our audiologist will evaluate your hearing, discuss your daily needs, and help you choose a style that fits comfortably and supports your communication goals.
Do I have to get new hearing aids if my hearing loss changes?
No, hearing aids are designed to be reprogrammed as your hearing loss changes. Universal Audiology & Hearing Center offers on-going services for your hearing aids, so you will always have the help you need. If your hearing aids are not serving you as well as they used to, contact us for an appointment.
Why am I hearing a ringing in my ears?
Tinnitus is a condition where a person hears a sound that is not actually in their environment. It can often be referred to as ringing, buzzing, or whooshing noise. Tinnitus can be a temporary or a permanent symptom and can range from moderately irritating to debilitating.
There is no known cure for tinnitus, but there are treatment options for managing it. At Universal Audiology, we meet with patients experiencing tinnitus and determine what may be causing the issue. We can then move on to providing methods that will reduce the undesired noise.
What if I don’t like the hearing aid I chose?
If you are not satisfied, we offer a 45-day risk-free trial with no return fees.
Why do my ears feel clogged and what can I do about it?
A clogged or “full” feeling in the ears can be caused by several things, including earwax build-up, fluid behind the eardrum, sinus pressure, or even changes in elevation. In some cases, it could also be related to hearing impairment. While minor issues may resolve on their own, it’s important to avoid using cotton swabs or inserting objects into the ear. If the feeling persists or is accompanied by discomfort, dizziness, or hearing changes, it’s best to schedule an appointment with a hearing specialist for a proper evaluation.
Can I connect my hearing aids to my phone?
With Bluetooth hearing aids and a smartphone, yes, you can! Many of today’s hearing aids have Bluetooth connectivity, making it easy to stream phone calls, music, and other audio directly to your ears. When you receive your hearing aids our audiologist will go over how to connect them to your phone.
